Fewer Businesses are Testing Employees for Cannabis

This opens up a whole new pool of candidates who might have otherwise been ineligible.

Fewer businesses are drug testing employees for cannabis, according to new research from Quest Diagnostics.

As Axios points out, the drop in testing comes as cannabis legalization and society’s acceptance of the drug are gaining momentum.

Quest’s Suhash Harwani said scaling back on drug testing can help employers find candidates who might have otherwise been ineligible.

States are also introducing new protections for employees as cannabis use increases.

According to the report, states including California and New York have made it illegal for employers to fire or not hire people based only on positive cannabis test results.

Nearly half of U.S. states have legalized adult-use recreational cannabis.
