Ohio’s new adult-use recreational cannabis market has gotten off to a promising start.
The state’s Division of Cannabis Control said that as of Saturday, about one month since sales kicked off in August, dispensaries have recorded $54.6 million in recreational sales.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the sales total accounted for 6,179 pounds of cannabis flower and more than 840,000 manufactured product units.
While the first month has been a positive experience for some dispensaries, some long-time medical dispensaries are lamenting the price declines that come with increased supply.
Last year, cannabis market intelligence firm BDSA projected that recreational sales might not launch until 2025 but that they would total $300 million annually by then.
If recreational sales maintain their current rates in Ohio, the market in the state could more than double that projection.
