Prolific Pot Grower Told Police They Only Liked the Smell

The Chinese national said she was not selling "her babies."

A woman accused of running a large, illegal cannabis grow operation in Maine told police she only kept the plants around because she liked the smell.

Last month, 29-year-old Jiamin Liao was arrested and charged with two felony counts of maintaining a marijuana-involved premise.

When police raided Liao’s operation, they seized 600 cannabis plants and about 20 pounds of processed cannabis.

According to a copy of the search warrant obtained by WGME, the Chinese national told authorities that the plants were her babies.

Maine officials have ramped up their enforcement of illegal cannabis operations across the state.

Earlier this year, a top federal prosecutor said there could still be more than 100 illegal cannabis operations up and running in Maine.
