In what’s being called a first, a cannabis cultivator in Massachusetts is suing a neighboring berry farmer for overspraying their crops with pesticides.
According to the Boston Globe, River Valley Growers filed the complaint after thousands of pounds of cannabis were ruined.
The company said its bumper 2022 crop had to be thrown out and that it hasn’t been able to plant cannabis on its property again since.
River Valley put its total losses at $17 million.
“It has been a nightmare,” the company said in a statement. “The repeated incidents of pesticide overspray have all but put River Valley Growers out of business.
As the report points out, Massachusetts doesn’t allow cannabis growers to use many pesticides, but the state has different rules for other commercial agricultural operations.
