Pico IV, a startup that's created a sterile CBD emulsion, announced a strategic partnership with Liquivida, an IV therapy and wellness company.
As part of the partnership, Liquivida founder Sam Tejada, who also serves as Chairman of the Leadership Advisory Board for the American IV Association (AIVA), has been appointed to the Pico IV Advisory Board. As a spokesperson for the brand, Tejada will help raise awareness about the "clinical potential of CBD."
Pico IV said its product is manufactured in a cGMP facility, undergoes rigorous batch testing, and is sterilized using e-beam technology.
Still, it's faced pushback from regulators. Earlier this year, the FDA sent a warning letter to Pico IV, saying that “injectable drug products can pose risks of serious harm to users.”
The FDA said the Pico IV is apparently marketed as a dietary supplement, but noted that the FD&C Act defines dietary supplements as “intended for ingestion.”
Pico IV is not generally recognized as safe and effective and, therefore, is a “new drug,” meaning it can’t be commercially launched without approval, the FDA wrote.
