100-Year-Old Hat Factory to Become Cannabis Hub

The facility could become home to a large-scale cultivation operation.

A 100-year-old hat factory in Norwalk, Connecticut may soon find new life as a hub for cannabis businesses.

According to CT Insider, building owner Winthrop Baum has spent six years and $22 million making updates to the facility.

He added more insulation, installed new windows and redesigned the roof to allow for outdoor cannabis cultivation.

Baum said the building could be home to a large-scale grower, which Connecticut defines as a cultivation site with 20,000 square feet of space.

The old factory also hopes to accommodate other cannabis businesses like dispensaries, manufacturers and processors.

Legal adult-use recreational cannabis sales kicked off in Connecticut earlier this year.
