Twitter has updated its advertising policy and will now allow some cannabis ads on its platform in the U.S.
According to AdCann, the social media site had previously only allowed ads for topical CBD products.
But now, Twitter will allow advertisers to “promote brand preference and informational cannabis-related content.”
The new rules apply to THC, CBD and other cannabinoids, and cannabis-related products or services.
Cannabis advertisers must have the appropriate licenses and can only target jurisdictions covered by those licenses.
Advertisers may not promote or offer the sale of cannabis except for topical hemp-derived CBD topical products with equal to or less than 0.3% THC.
Twitter will restrict cannabis ads that appeal to minors and ones that use characters, sports-persons, celebrities, or images/icons appealing to minors.
The site is barring ads that make claims of health benefits, show cannabis product use, or encourage transport of cannabis products across state lines.
