This week, Jonathan Spadafora, CEO of Flower Union, joins the Cannabis Equipment News podcast.

Spadafora's journey into cannabis began when his daughter was dealing with health issues and the family decided CBD could help. But that was before it was widely available, so it meant having to move to Colorado to be near medical professionals that had access to CBD.

Shortly after relocating to Denver, Spadafora ran into an old college friend who had invested in what was at the time the only wholesale recreational flower company in the country. Spadafora's background in hospitality, and dealing with major alcohol brands, leant itself to helping with the branding and marketing for his friend's company.

Veritas enjoyed a long run as one of the biggest cannabis cultivators in Colorado, but the company eventually shut down once Spadafora and his partners realized it would be "absurdly expensive" to bring the operation up to date with the technology-driven future of growing the plant. So when Spadafora decided to start Flower Union, he and the rest of his team really took into account the lessons they learned at Veritas. Flower Union, which specializes in fast-acting edibles that rely on Azuca's TiME Infusion technology, is working with co-manufacturing partners in other states to remain more nimble — with a smaller but more focused team.

The result has been a cannabis company pushing forward an edible experience that's not only more predictable, but a purer expression of the plant.
