Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear today shared his state's progress on propping up its medical cannabis marketplace.
Kentucky legalized cannabis in 2023 and it took effect on January 1, 2025. To date, it has approved and opened 11 cultivators, two safety compliance facilities, five processors and 23 dispensaries. More than 25,000 Kentuckians have been approved for medical cannabis cards, and more than 490 practitioners are registered to issue certifications.
Beshear said another dispensary, Blue Sage, is opening on Friday.
"These announcements put us over the halfway mark of Kentucky becoming fully operational when it comes to dispensaries," he said.
The press conference comes after Beshear last week cut the ribbon on Holler Cannabis, a Tier I medical cannabis cultivator owned by Fayette County natives.
"This is just the latest example of how we've kept our promise to Kentuckians," he said.
Kentucky officially kicked off its medical cannabis market in late 2025. The Post was first fully approved and licensed medical dispensary in the state, and the product available was grown by Farmtucky, the first licensed cultivator to bring product to market.
“Our priority is ensuring Kentuckians suffering with serious medical conditions can have safe access to medical cannabis, as soon as possible, to get the relief they need,” said Beshear in a statement. “We’ll keep sharing more news as it’s available. We made a promise – a promise we kept. And now we’re just days away from the first safe medical cannabis being available in Kentucky for those who need it.”
