7 Stars Holistic Healing Center installed four electric vehicle chargers with support from cannabis brands Kiva, Sol Spirit Farm, Wyld, and Native Humboldt. MCE Energy provided technical assistance and financial support.
With the chargers installed, 7 Stars now offers charging to cannabis suppliers that deliver to the dispensary multiple times a week. Kiva owns an EV and has plugged in at 7 Stars, and Sol Spirit Farm is exploring EVs as a part of its operations. 7 Stars uses MCE Energy’s Deep Green 100% Renewable Energy, and by doing so is making a contribution to California’s zero emissions transportation goals.
“To stop climate change every industry has to reduce or eliminate carbon emissions, and a crucial part of that is electrifying transportation,” said Ian Elwood, Director of Marketing. “By offering on-site EV charging, and by using renewable wind and solar power, we are setting the standard for the cannabis industry and encouraging others to rise to the challenge.”
The dispensary plans on taking the next step in creating a more climate-friendly cannabis supply chain by exploring options for creating a zero emissions delivery service, which would deliver cannabis from the dispensary directly to the consumer using electric vehicles.
7 Stars is doing its part in service of the goal of decarbonizing the transportation sector to meet the emissions targets needed to stop the worst impacts of climate change. By electrifying transportation and using clean sources of power, 7 Stars is taking an important step toward decarbonizing the economy—one of many important steps needed to prevent warming 1.5 degrees celsius above preindustrial levels, as set forth by the Paris Agreement.
“We were spurred into action by seeing the suffering caused by the continued climate impacts right here in Northern California and the many other climate disasters around the world,” said Zee Handoush, Executive Director. “I’m glad that 7 Stars can do our part to transition to a zero emissions economy, and I hope others in the cannabis industry will join us in taking similar steps.”
