A Marquette Law School poll suggests that a majority of Wisconsin voters approve of legalizing cannabis.
The latest figures, based on polling conducted in mid-June, show 67% in favor and 33% against, with no respondents on the fence about the issue. It continues the trend since 2022 of cannabis legalization polling at 60% or above in favor.
Support for legalization trended much higher among Democratic voters. According to Marquette Law School, majority of Republicans, 56%, oppose legalization, while majorities of independents, 79%, and of Democrats, 88%, favor legalizing marijuana.
Despite continued opposition from the Republican-controlled state legislature, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said his state should prioritize cannabis legalization in 2025. Late last year, he said hopes his state can advance “evidence-based justice reform,” which would in part include cannabis legalization.
With Minnesota's adult-use recreational cannabis market beginning to come online, Wisconsin is now almost completely surrounded by states that have legalized cannabis.
