Higher prices for consumers are expected after the Trump administration earlier this month slapped tariffs on some of the U.S.'s biggest trade partners, including a 10% across-the-board tariff on goods from China. But one cannabis packaging company has made a point of stating it plans to eat the price increases instead of passing them onto its partners and consumers.

Chubby Gorilla, a California-based company specializing in child-resistant packaging for cannabis products, this week pledged to personally absorb the 10% tariff while seemingly taking shots at its competitors.

"We know the game: businesses hustle every day to meet customer needs while keeping the lights on. We're right there with you," the company wrote in an email. "Funny how some companies throw around words like 'valued,' 'partnership,' and 'commitment' -- then hike your costs at the first sign of trouble. We don't just talk. We act."

Chubby Gorilla's PET containers come in a range of sizes and shapes including tubes, bottles and XL containers, and feature both spiral closures and Aviator, which includes an all-in-one SmartCap system that simultaneously prepares and applies a tamper-evident band. It also features a spring suspension that retracts when it closes for what Chubby Gorilla calls a “levitating feel and a frictionless surface.”

Chubby Gorilla also offers liquid containers including its soft-squeeze Unicorn Bottle with child-resistant closures.

The company first opened a 75,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in 2017 before eventually expanding with a 400,000-square-foot facility in 2020.
