CEN at MJBizCon: Bladeless Bud Trimmer Keeps Flower Intact

It uses silicon to remove the leaves and protect the trichomes.

John Baldiga, co-founder, vice president and general manager at Platform Robotics, first got into cannabis after a friend, who had partial ownership in a grow operation, contacted him. He told Baldiga he was very unhappy with his trimming machine and asked if Baldiga could use his experience in automation and machinery to make something better.

That was the genesis for Softrim, an automated process for de-leafing cannabis that relies on silicon fingers instead of blades. It gently massages the buds while breaking off the sugar leaves. Baldiga said the machine is safer, it doesn't break open the trichomes, and it provides natural-looking flower at a much faster rate than hand trimming.

The Cannabis Equipment News (CEN) team recently traveled to MJBizCon 2024 in Las Vegas from December 4 through December 6. At the show, we interviewed leaders from nearly every aspect of the industry. We didn't have time to interview everybody, so if we missed you, please reach out to [email protected]. MJBizCon 2025 is scheduled to be held from December 2, 2025, through December 5, 2025, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
