Village Farms International said it has commenced cultivation at its Phase II cultivation and processing facility in Groningen, Netherlands, following receipt of final regulatory approvals. The Groningen facility is expected to ramp to full production capacity into early 2027 and will bring the company’s maximum annualized production capacity in the Netherlands to approximately 10 metric tons.

“We’re excited to announce that we’ve commenced all operations at our Phase II facility in Groningen, where our increased production capacity will enable us to continue driving profitable sales growth through the remainder of this year and beyond. We’re proud to continue showcasing the strength of our facilities and teams with the support of our local municipalities in Drachten and Groningen, where we remain committed as long-term community partners focused on demonstrating our responsible approach to the regulated cannabis market," said CEO Michael DeGiglio in a statement.

In the Netherlands, the company is one of only 10 licensed operators in the country’s regulated cannabis program, and it also holds equity interests in cannabis businesses in Australia and Germany. Beyond cannabis, the company’s Clean Energy division transforms landfill gas into renewable natural gas, and it also holds an equity interest in Verdexa Holdings (formerly Vanguard Food LP), a private venture pursuing strategic acquisitions to build a premier branded food platform in North America.
