How Accelerant Made 100 Million Pre-Rolls This Year

And how it plans to make even more next year.

Accelerant launched the CoatPRO, a new pre-roll coating automation machine, at MJBizCon 2025 in Las Vegas. The CoatPRO is ideal for high-volume, precision kief-coating operations, capable of making 1,200 pre-rolls per hour with a single operator. But the company is keeping the technology closely guarded and won't let you see under the hood.

"Our engineers spent a lot of time, and we want to make sure our customers get something that is a competitive advantage for them," said Grant Schuster, founder of Accelerant Manufacturing. "If everybody sees what we can do, then they can copy it."

Schuster says his new machine produces crisp, repeatable pre-rolls that can be packaged and sold immediately. Admittedly, the demonstration on the show floor was compelling as Schuster would write your name (or initials) on a pre-roll and run it through the machine—it came out flawlessly kief-coated.

"The pre-roll industry continues to rapidly grow," Schuster added. "In a chaotic industry, you've got to find opportunity and happiness somewhere—ours is in pre-rolls. I really think you have a limitless ability to grow."

While kief-coating has become popular with consumers, it remains labor-intensive. Schuster believes the CoatPRO is the answer.

Accelerant also entered the cone manufacturing space, setting up operations in Iowa. The company noticed that customers were experiencing procurement issues, so it set up a domestic shop to significantly shorten lead times. Schuster showed off a rainbow of cone colors and tips, including paper, ceramic, and glass, as well as custom engraving services, which enable companies to brand or otherwise customize the cones.

Accelerant continues to offer an equipment-as-a-service model. Last year, the company invested more than $1 million to upgrade its existing fleet. Schuster said he plans to do the same in 2026.

Last year, Accelerant's equipment produced about 50 million pre-rolls; this year, it produced 100 million. Next year, Schuster expects that half of the 250 million cones he expects to produce in Iowa will be used by his own customers.

The Cannabis Equipment News (CEN) team recently traveled to MJBizCon 2025 in Las Vegas from December 3 through December 5. At the show, we interviewed leaders from nearly every aspect of the industry. We didn't have time to interview everybody, so if we missed you, please reach out to [email protected]. MJBizCon 2026 is scheduled to be held from December 1, 2026, through December 4, 2026, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
