Thailand to Hand Out One Million Free Cannabis Plants

At-home cultivation rules could lead to new businesses and revenue growth.

Thailand earlier this year said that people can begin growing their own cannabis plants in their homes.

Beginning next month, Thailand residents will be able to grow as many cannabis plants as they want, said the country’s public health minister.

To get the ball rolling, Anutin Charnvirakul said the country will offer one million free plants to be used for household cultivation.

According to Nation Thailand, the cannabis must only be grown for medicinal use, but official registration is not required for home cultivation.

Still, people must notify local governments before growing cannabis at home and it can’t be used for commercial purposes without a license, according to Reuters.

Thailand believes the at-home cultivation rules could lead to new businesses and revenue growth.

Charnvirakul said the new rules could help Thailand generate more than 10 million Baht per year.

Meanwhile, people can showcase their cannabis- and hemp-related products and wisdom and sell their products nationwide."
