Amsterdam's Red Light District Cannabis Smoking Ban Kicks In

Visitors and residents will still be allowed to smoke inside as well as in designated areas such as cannabis cafes.

Amsterdam, a famous international hub for cannabis tourism, is cracking down on pot smoke.

The city just put into effect a ban on smoking cannabis in the streets of the Red Light District.

According to Reuters, the city has installed signs throughout the neighborhood warning visitors of 100 Euro fines for violations.

Visitors and residents will still be allowed to smoke inside as well as in designated areas such as cannabis cafes.

The new rules are part of Mayor Femke Halsema’s pledge to improve conditions for workers in the area.

Amsterdam has reportedly considered moving the Red Light District to other, less central areas of the city but has received pushback from residents in proposed locations.
