Wine Growers Oppose New Cannabis Operations

They're concerned about water use.

Some California wine growers have come out in opposition to new cannabis cultivation licenses awarded near their vineyards.

According to CBS News, Saluti Cellars’ Randy Rossi represents two associations that are against the proposed 7-acre cannabis grow.

Rossi said the cannabis operation could impact his brand, create safety concerns and greatly increase water usage in the area.

He said cannabis plants require as much as 10 times the water needed for grapevines.

“That’s a huge number and we’re going to fight this,” Rossi said.

El Dorado County, near Lake Tahoe, has approved 12 commercial cannabis projects, nine of which focus on retail and distribution. The others focus on cultivation.
