Ohio this week will come online as the latest U.S. state with a legal, adult-use recreational cannabis market when sales kicks off on Tuesday. Major marijuana companies were quick to cheer the development.

Curaleaf, whose store in Newark will be one of the locations open for adult-use, medical or both, said it has been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to serve a new community of Ohioians.

"We firmly believe that Ohio has the potential to be one of the nation's most exciting cannabis markets and have prepared for this moment by increasing cultivation capacity and prioritizing flower availability to accommodate the launch," said Curaleaf CEO Matt Darin. "Having effectively transitioned several medical markets to adult-use, we look forward to introducing the state's adult-use consumers to our carefully curated brand and product collection to help them find the best-suited products to meet their diverse needs."

Verano Holdings said it will commence adult use cannabis sales in Ohio on Tuesday, August 6 at four of its five statewide Zen Leaf retail locations in Bowling Green, Canton, Cincinnati, and Dayton, with its Newark location expected to follow pending approval from state officials.

“Today marks a significant step forward for Ohio, and the nation at large, as we celebrate the end of cannabis prohibition and turn the page on a new chapter that will deliver countless benefits for the Buckeye State in the form of job creation, economic development, investment, state and local revenue, and social progress,” said Verano CEO George Archos.

Trulieve said it intends to kick off recreational sales on its locations in Beavercreek, Columbus, and Westerville.

"We are excited to be among the first group of operators to launch adult use sales in Ohio following a successful ballot initiative last year," said Trulieve CEO Kim Rivers. "We are committed to maintaining excellent service standards for our existing medical patients while welcoming new adult use customers to our dispensaries."

Klutch Cannabis, which was awarded its Ohio licenses just over one month ago, said it was ready to begin dual-use sales at its locations in Canton and Lorain.
