Maine Sells $258,000 in Recreational Cannabis on Day One

In the first four days of a long holiday weekend, retailers processed 6,430 transactions.

On opening weekend, cannabis retail sales in Maine reached $258,411.58.

On October 9, 2020, Maine became the 10th state to begin legal recreational marijuana sales.

In the first four days of a long holiday weekend, retailers processed 6,430 transactions.

On opening day alone, six retailers reached sales eclipsing $94,000 in product.

The state now has nine licensed retailers, but three of them were closed on opening day.

Supply shortages prevented at least one retailer from opening its doors.

Still, the weekend was a victory for an industry that has been bogged down by bureaucracy since voters approved the referendum in November 2016.

According to the Maine Office of Marijuana Policy, the state will collect approximately $25,841.16 in sales tax from sales in the first four days.
