NY Gives $5M to Schools to Support Cannabis College Courses

The goal is to support more people working in the cannabis industry.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that SUNY and CUNY community colleges will receive $5 million.

The funding will support short-term credential programs or course offerings that prepare people to work in the cannabis industry.

Three SUNY campuses will receive $1 million each and one CUNY campus will receive $2 million.

Each awarded campus or consortium of campuses will be supported by start-up funds for a three-year period, the state said.

The goal is to create or enhance non-degree and degree-eligible courses and programs, stackable credentials and/or microcredentials.

The New York State Department of Labor and the Office of Cannabis Management will help students find work following course completion.

"...We will ensure that New Yorkers who want careers in this growing sector have the quality training they need to be successful,” Hochul said.
