Governors Pitch Ideas for Promoting Safe Driving with Cannabis Users

The group suggests using trusted advisors as messengers.

The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) released a new report suggesting ways to promote safe driving for cannabis consumers.

The report is designed to help State Highway Safety Offices (SHSOs) better communicate with cannabis consumers.

The GHSA is encouraging dedicated funding for traffic safety programs taken out of cannabis sales tax revenues.

The group also said states should form partnerships with the cannabis industry and enlist trusted advisors as messengers instead of government officials.

The GHSA also recommends using language that resonates with the cannabis community while avoiding unflattering stereotypes.

The campaign could help clear up some misinformation. An AAA survey suggests some people think cannabis use improves driving.

The GHSA’s suggestions are based on lessons learned in similar campaigns in Colorado and Washington.
