D.C. Cannabis Company Sues City Over Police Raids

Police officers have seized more than $700,000 in cash that hasn't been returned.

A cannabis retailer in D.C. is suing the city to recover cash taken in multiple police raids.

Mr. Nice Guys DC said that police officers have seized more than $700,000 in cash during raids that happened in 2021.

According to the lawsuit, charges were dropped in all instances but the police did not return the money seized.

The owners, who said the raids cost them money and products while causing damage, are seeking $750,000.

Mr. Nice Guys DC doesn’t sell cannabis directly to consumers, but instead gifts it when customers purchase other legal products.

Earlier this year, the D.C. City Council proposed a bill that would fine businesses that engage in cannabis gifting.

But the emergency legislation, which would have gone into effect right away, did not pass.
