Washington Zeroes In on Cannabis Pesticide Level Violations

It said detections of DDE were traced back to the same area in North Central Washington.

Washington shared an update regarding its crackdown on cannabis that tests for higher than acceptable levels of pesticides.

The state sets the actionable level for DDE, which is a breakdown remnant of DDT, at 0.1 parts per million (PPM).

Between January and March 2023, the state’s Liquor and Cannabis Board said seven results were above action limits (average 0.19 PPM).

The Board said detections of DDE were traced back to the same area in North Central Washington in a short stretch of land along the south end of the Okanogan River and north of Lake Pateros.

The five licensees with DDE above action limits were each called on April 6, 2023, and told about the test results.

The licensees were told an administrative hold would be placed, asked to provide product records, and urged to issue a licensee-initiated recall.
