Curaleaf Lays Off 49 at New Jersey Cannabis Facility

“This is basically scaling back production because we have ample supply to meet the current needs."

Curaleaf, one of the largest multi-state cannabis operators in the U.S., is laying off 49 employees at its Winslow, New Jersey production facility.

According to ROI-NJ, the company said the state’s slow recreational cannabis rollout has caused supply and demand issues.

Curaleaf CEO Matt Darin told the publication that New Jersey’s limited number of dispensaries means less demand for the company’s products.

“This is basically scaling back production because we have ample supply to meet the current needs,” he said.

As the publication points out, this is Curaleaf’s second round of layoffs in New Jersey this year. In March, the company shut down a production facility in Bellmawr.

Curaleaf still has approximately 400 employees in New Jersey working on various retail and production sites.

Darin promised that his company would ramp up production once more dispensaries open in the state.
