Cannabis Company Challenges Florida's Skyrocketing License Fees

It said the increases are "without logic or reason.”

A medical cannabis dispensary is challenging Florida’s license-renewal fees, which have recently risen dramatically.

Florida’s new rules mean medical cannabis operators now have to pay $1.33 million every two years to renew their licenses.

Before the new rules were adopted in December 2022, cannabis companies were paying $60,000 every two years.

Sanctuary Cannabis called the 22x fee hike unjustified and pointed out that Florida’s Department of Health already brings in significant annual revenue.

The agency collected $84 million during fiscal 2022 and expects to collect $114 million during the 2024 fiscal year.

Sanctuary said raising fees “without accounting for significant and undisputed streams of fee revenue is wholly without logic or reason.”
