Dispensary Owner Sues State for Allegedly Censoring Cannabis Ads

He says the ban is a violation of his First Amendment rights.

A medical cannabis dispensary owner in Mississippi is suing the state over rules he says block him from advertising.

Clarence Cocroft II opened Tru Source Medical Cannabis last year but says it’s been a struggle to get the word out to more customers.

He said the ban is a violation of his First Amendment rights.

“All I want to do, like any other business owner, is have the opportunity to advertise. If I pay taxes in this business, which I do, I should be able to advertise,” said Cocroft II.

As the report points out, neighboring states including Arkansas and Alabama also have rules preventing cannabis advertising through traditional public media.

But Cocroft II and his attorneys said Mississippi’s rules are much more prohibitive.
