An app that helps connect cannabis smokers won the seventh annual Cannabis Startup Competition at Boston University.
JoinME is like a dating app but instead of helping people find a potential partner, it helps people find someone to smoke cannabis with.
Creators Marco Rotella and Claudio Bettini said the idea came from moving often and needing to make new friends.
They said the app was created in part based on their research suggesting increased desire for social cannabis use, particularly among younger consumers.
JoinME plans to advertise to grow its user base and then monetize the app by selling ads and personal data.
The competition awards the first place team with $10,000 and free consulting services from industry experts, according to BU Today.
