Idaho Bill Proposes $420 Fine for Pot Possession

The lawmaker seems well aware of the reference.

A newly proposed bill in Idaho would enforce a minimum fine of $420 for cannabis possession.

The potential law would target individuals caught with less than three ounces of cannabis.

Idaho law already carries a punishment of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine for possessing more than three ounces of cannabis.

According to the Idaho Capital Sun, this is Rep. Bruce Skaug’s (a Republican representing District 10) second attempt at passing similar legislation.

As the report points out, Skaug is well aware of the pot smoking reference within his bill’s suggested minimum fine.

When introducing the revised bill, he reportedly told a committee he “smoked out” the problem with his previous bill and referred to his assistant as “Mary Jane.”
