Trulieve Ordered to Address Wastewater Violations at Florida Facility

It needs to either pay a big fine or pay for an even more expensive fix.

Trulieve has been presented with an ultimatum.

According to WCTV, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has ordered the cannabis operator to pay an $80,000 fine or complete a $120,000 environmental project approved by agency.

The official order comes after an inspection earlier year at Trulieve's indoor cannabis cultivation facility in Monticello, Florida found that site sprayed wastewater onto its lawn. Some of that water went beyond the facility’s perimeter.

In April Trulieve was given 15 days to respond to the DEP letter, or it was warned it could face penalties up to $15,000 a day until the problem is remedied.

As the Tallahassee Democrat pointed out at the time, the Florida DEP was not the first state agency to alert Trulieve about potential concerns with its cultivation facility. After residents raised concerns, the Suwannee River Water Management District ordered the company to submit a maintenance plan.

Trulieve is facing fines and expensive fixes to its irrigation and wastewater removal systems after neighbors complained about runoff. But residents said there are additional concerns including odor and noise that they'd like to see the Trulieve address.
