State Offers Free Security Checks for Robbery-Plagued Dispensaries

Washington reported more than 50 cannabis store robberies so far this year.

Recreational and medical cannabis dispensaries often do a lot of business in cash and have therefore become a target for robberies.

To help with the problem, Washington’s State Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) will begin offering free security assessments.

In March, Washington said more than 50 robberies at cannabis stores in the state had already been reported for the year.

In one Washington state dispensary robbery this year, a 29-year-old employee was shot and killed.

The LCB and security firm Setracon will work with Washington’s more than 180 dispensaries to assess potential security risks.

They will also review criminal threats facing retailers, evaluate mitigations and suggest areas for improvement.

The LCB is also working with the Washington State Crime Prevention Association to offer safety training for dispensary owners and workers.
