Cannabis Plants Found Growing Near Wisconsin State Capitol

The state has yet to legal medical or adult-use cannabis.

Cannabis plants were recently spotted growing near the Wisconsin State Capitol building in Madison, Wisconsin.

The plants showed up among the tulips that are planted on the grounds.

NBC15 spoke with UW-Madison Assistant Professor Shelby Ellison, who confirmed the plants are cannabis and speculated they didn’t end up there by accident.

“If it was a single seed that was planted from somebody you would just have a single plant, but the fact that it is interspersed in the area makes it look purposeful,” she said.

She said that whoever planted the cannabis would need a special permit from the USDA to make it legal.

Wisconsin is one of the remaining states that has yet to legalize either medical or adult-use recreational cannabis.
