Cannabis MSO Fined $200K for Running Moldy Facility

Mold was found on processing tables and in growing rooms.

Holistic, a vertically integrated cannabis company based in Massachusetts, has been fined $200,000 for multiple mold violations in its facilities.

The company operates multiple dispensaries along with a manufacturing facility, cultivation facility and two medical cannabis treatment centers.

According to a stipulated agreement filed by the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, the company received several complaints from employees in 2021.

The employees claimed that potentially contaminated product was “pushed through anyway.”

Investigators discovered that a known mold issue was present since November 2020 and it was not fully remediated until May 2022.

Mold was found on processing tables and in growing rooms, office spaces, drains, HVAC systems and structural elements.

The company also used testing methods more likely to pass products despite some of the product smelling and tasting like mold.

In addition to the fine, Holistic has agreed to extensive third-party testing.
