Oklahoma Cannabis Industry Blames Regulators for Delayed Licenses

Some say they've been waiting for more than a year.

Some in Oklahoma’s medical cannabis industry said their businesses have been hurt by delays in approving or renewing licenses.

Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority, or OMMA, is required by state law to approve renewals within 90 days.

But according to Oklahoma Voice, some applicants have been waiting for more than a year.

OMMA refuted allegations that it isn’t renewing licenses in a timely manner but the report said the agency was unable to share any documentation on renewals.

Critics of OMMA’s cannabis license renewals track record said the agency is relying too much on a stipulation that allows companies to continue operating while waiting for renewal.

They also said the delays could drive would-be market entrants to other states with more supportive and easier to navigate regulatory processes.
