A cannabis dispensary in Connecticut is seeking a way around a requirement to install solar panels on its roof.
Fine Fettle was approved last year as Norwalk’s first recreational cannabis dispensary.
As part of the special permit, the company was tasked with installing rooftop and covered parking solar panels.
But Fine Fettle’s Chief Operating Officer Ben Zachs has told the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission that solar is not viable at the site.
According to CT Insider, Zachs said shady trees block the roof and that rooftop solar would not provide enough energy saving for the company to recoup costs during its 10-year lease.
The company also expressed concerns about losing parking spots to solar panels in the lot since the shop often uses all of its available parking.
Fine Fettle assured regulators that it is not opposed to solar panels and that it uses them at other locations in the state.
