Maine this month issued its first-ever health and safety recall for a recreational cannabis product.
The state’s Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) recalled certain cannabis flower and pre-rolls produced by Cannabis Cured after the products failed tests for yeast and mold.
The products were sold between Aug. 27 and Sept. 9 at several recreational cannabis shops throughout the state.
The agency warned that inhaling cannabis containing unsafe levels of mold can lead to sinus issues, allergies, headaches, dizziness, or fatigue.
The OCP instructed consumers who have purchased the affected products to dispose of them or return them to the retailer.
The recall is the first issued since Maine’s adult-use program began in 2020 and the state attributed it to its ongoing rigorous review of mandatory test results.
“Because of the work of OCP’s chemist, the Office was able to quickly identify the testing irregularity and begin its investigation, including taking and testing samples from affected batches,” the state said.
