The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission has issued two substantial fines to Curaleaf and Ascend Wellness, two of the largest cannabis MSOs operating in the state.
Curaleaf was fined $80,000 for a “systemic problem of not following best practices to limit contamination,” according to the Boston Globe.
That included issues with doors staying open, unsealed gaps in doorways and ducts, and continued behavior that created multiple pesticide contaminations.
Curaleaf said it has since destroyed the affected products and taken measures to address the identified issues at its facilities.
Ascend Wellness was fined $85,000 for improperly tracking cannabis. That included several mix-ups between products that had been sold for pick-up and in-store.
A company spokesperson told the publication that it has already implemented most of the necessary actions.”
