Last year at MJBizCon, Alain Vo, founder and CEO of Leafypack, launched Evocan, his new depositing division focused on the gummy market. This year, he brought the fastest depositor in the world, the Evo Mini, which can produce at least 50,000 gummies per hour (and up to 100,000).
"[Evo Mini] is going to be the next big thing in the cannabis space," Vo says. Right now, the Evo Mini is running too fast for some operators, so Evocan is developing cooling tunnels and demolders to remove bottlenecks from the process.
Vo says the cannabis industry has matured, with more sophisticated equipment buyers coming to the industry from the CPG market. He says these are more engineering-minded professionals buying systems tailored to their specific needs instead of "Frankensteining" things together. Vo says Evo Mini makes "sweet gummies, sweeter margins."
LeafyPack also showed off the company's RotoBagger at the show, which just won a 2024 Cannatech Innovation Award.
The upgraded Apollo Pro Pre Roller was on display as well. Apollo has a smaller footprint and makes about 35 pre-rolls per minute; each check weighed by one of four weighers.
Vo ordered upgrades to Apollo because he wanted it to go faster, especially in the dogwalker space. He says the industry is looking for better production of the smaller .35 g pre-rolls. Apollo previously produced about 1,000 dogwalkers per hour, but Leafypack has cranked it up to 2,500 per hour.
Despite recent headwinds, Vo is optimistic about the industry and feels the cannabis industry will go legal under the new Trump administration.
The Cannabis Equipment News (CEN) team recently traveled to MJBizCon 2024 in Las Vegas from December 4 through December 6. At the show, we interviewed leaders from nearly every aspect of the industry. We didn't have time to interview everybody, so if we missed you, please reach out to [email protected]. MJBizCon 2025 is scheduled to be held from December 2, 2025, through December 5, 2025, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
