Ohio has been enjoying one of the most successful recent launches for a new adult-use recreational cannabis market and one key factor may be the biggest contributor.
The state kicked off recreational sales in August 2024 and by the end of the year had already surpassed $242 million in sales.
Ben Burstein, a sales analyst at LeafLink, told Fox 8 that Ohio’s 124 dual-use dispensaries have helped with the initial sales growth.
Before Ohio’s recreational market launched, the state decided to award licenses allowing dispensaries to sell both medical and recreational cannabis.
“Usually, when a state starts, they have to create a separate path for adult recreational use. Ohio already had a blueprint that other states struggled to create,” Burstein said.
While Ohio’s cannabis market looks to build on its strong start in 2024, it could be facing some significant changes to the state’s existing laws.
