CEN at MJBizCon: Cannabis PR Needs to Navigate a Fragmented Landscape

Marino's Jordan Isenstadt says cannabis PR is tricky, but it's ultimately about connecting companies and customers.

Jordan Isenstadt is senior vice president at Marino, a communications firm that works in verticals including real estate and health while also representing cannabis clients including Ayr Wellness and Curaleaf. When Isenstadt joined the firm, his initial focus was on higher education and public affairs. But he saw what was happening in markets like New Jersey and New York and thought it would be smart for Marino to explore cannabis PR.

After about seven years of work, cannabis has become one of Marino's fastest growing practices.

Still, despite all the growth and forward momentum in cannabis, the industry remains fairly fragmented from a legal and regulatory standpoint. Isenstadt said it can be tricky to navigate that landscape in his role at Marino. Every market varies in terms of laws, policies, packaging, stakeholders and cannabis media coverage.

"Most of our clients come to us because they're looking to connect with their customers," he said, whether they're B2B or B2C. "At the end of the day, we take things that are complex, boil them down, and then figure out the best way to deliver the message through media."

The Cannabis Equipment News (CEN) team recently traveled to MJBizCon 2024 in Las Vegas from December 4 through December 6. At the show, we interviewed leaders from nearly every aspect of the industry. We didn't have time to interview everybody, so if we missed you, please reach out to [email protected]. MJBizCon 2025 is scheduled to be held from December 2, 2025, through December 5, 2025, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
