In February, Canopy Growth announced plans to restructure the company. This week, the company laid off 200 people in the U.S., Canada and U.K.
Canopy has now cut nearly 1,000 jobs, including temporary layoffs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Bloomberg, many of the jobs came from the company's marketing department.
According to Forbes, the company announced the layoffs in a group Zoom call that lasted two minutes. One employee said, “They fired everyone and hung up.”
Canopy Growth says the "operational changes" will help optimize production, better align supply and demand and improve efficiencies.
