Derek Chin, senior process engineer at Softrim, said the industry is still wrapping its head around his company's core technology, an automated bud trimmer without any blades. But after demoing the machine extensively during this year's MJBizCon, he's seen a lot of excitement about the technology, the process and the results.
Softrim relies on belts filled with soft silicon fingers that come in three different levels of stiffness for accommodating buds of various shapes and sizes. The fairly plug-and-play system is capable of trimming up to 1,000 pounds in an eight-hour shift. The gentle de-leafing process keeps the flower and trichomes intact and, perhaps most importantly, prevents significant product loss during the trimming process.
