Two New York cannabis growers died after contracting lung infections from fungus in bat feces they intended to use as fertilizer.

The 59- and 64-year-old men were legally growing cannabis for personal use.

They were admitted to the hospital after experiencing months of weight loss and troubled breathing.

According to the Miami Herald, the men tested positive for Histoplasma capsulatum, a fungus that causes histoplasmosis.

According to the Humboldt Seed Organization, guano as a feed during the flowering cycle, “will allow the terpenes and final flavor to become bold, and long lasting.”

It said the two basic forms are basic powdered guano, which works well for top dressing, or turning the powdered guano into a liquid tea that can be fed by hand.
