Botani is the cannabis division of SWM International, a privately-owned company that spun off from Kimberly-Clark in 1995 to focus on serving the tobacco industry. The company's legacy extends to 1545, when its first paper mill opened in southern France.
SWM has a multi-generational legacy of innovation and product development. The company operates a mill in New York state that upcycles tobacco byproducts and scraps into paper products primarily used by the cigar industry.
In 2018, when hemp became legalized through the Farm Bill, the company pursued products specifically made for the cannabis industry, most notably blunt wraps made from hemp flower and leaf biomass.
At MJBizCon 2025, Thomas Kraker, product manager at SWM International, said products derived from leaf and flower provide a very natural product with a distinct texture and appearance that blends really well with terpenes and flower. Kraker said Botani's hemp and tea leaf blunt wraps enhance the consumer experience.
